Amaranth (Amaranthus)

£6.00

A dramatic, easy-to-grow annual producing long, tassel-like flower plumes in shades of deep red or gold, doubling as an ancient, nutritious grain crop. As striking in a border as it is productive in the kitchen garden.

Bee Balm

£6.00

Also known as Bergamot, a vivid, shaggy-flowered herb beloved by bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds where they range. Its aromatic leaves have a long history of use in teas and traditional remedies.

Chia (Salvia hispanica)

£6.00

A warm-climate relative of garden sage, grown for its tiny, nutrient-dense seeds. A genuine growing challenge in the UK climate, best attempted in a long, warm summer or under cover.

Hardy Banana (Musa basjoo)

£15.00

A dramatic, fast-growing hardy banana prized for its huge, tropical-looking paddle leaves rather than any realistic UK harvest. A true architectural statement for a sheltered, sunny border, though it will need winter protection in all but the mildest gardens.

Lemon (Citrus limon)

£6.00

A beautiful evergreen citrus tree, the Lemon Tree is loved for its glossy green leaves, fragrant white flowers and bright yellow fruits. The flowers release a wonderful citrus scent, while the lemons bring both ornamental appeal and practical value to the home or garden. Ideal for growing in a pot on a sunny patio, in a conservatory or in a bright, sheltered position, lemon trees add a Mediterranean feel wherever they grow. In the UK, they are best grown in containers so they can be moved into a frost-free position during winter. With the right care, they can reward you with fragrant blossoms and homegrown lemons for years to come.

Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera)

£20.00

A sacred and spectacular aquatic perennial, producing huge rounded leaves and large, fragrant flowers that rise above still water in summer. Needs a sunny pond or large water container with still, warm water to thrive.

Quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa)

£6.00

An ancient Andean grain crop, increasingly trialed by UK growers for its tolerance of poor soils and modest watering needs. Produces distinctive seed heads in shades of red, gold, or green by late summer.

Rice (Oryza sativa)

£8.00

A genuine curiosity for the adventurous grower - rice can be raised outdoors in the UK in a warm, sheltered spot or large container kept consistently wet. More a talking point and growing challenge than a reliable harvest in our climate.

Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor)

£6.00

A tall, warm-season grain crop more familiar from hotter climates, offered here as a curiosity for growers keen to experiment. Needs a long, warm season to reach maturity in the UK.

Stevia rebaudiana

£6.00

A perennial herb known for its naturally sweet-tasting leaves, which contain steviol glycosides—compounds that are up to 300 times sweeter than sugar but contain zero calories. Easy to grow in pots or the ground, Stevia prefers well-drained soil and full sun, thriving in warm, sheltered spots. In colder climates, it can be brought indoors over winter. It’s non-invasive, fast-growing, and can be harvested multiple times in a growing season.

Toothache Plant (Acmella oleracea)

£6.00

A striking curiosity plant with golden, eyeball-like flower buds that deliver an intense tingling, numbing sensation when chewed - hence the name. Long used in folk medicine for toothache and mouth ailments, and increasingly popular with adventurous cooks for its unique 'electric' sensation.

Water Chestnut (Eleocharis dulcis)

£8.00

An aquatic sedge grown for its crisp, sweet corms, a familiar ingredient in East and Southeast Asian cooking. Needs a sunny, boggy spot or shallow still water to crop well.

Wild Oats (Avena fatua)

£6.00

A native wild grass and ancient ancestor of cultivated oats, with graceful, nodding seed heads that sway in the lightest breeze. A hardy, low-maintenance grain curiosity with a long history in traditional hedgerow and field-margin planting.
